I did it!- 21Km later..

While a year ago I completed a 5km run, I never thought that a Half Marathon was something I would even consider or achieve. Lets see, that's 21 km the equivalent of 13.1 MILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....... just typing that gives me the chills. Hahaha

How little do we know of ourselves and the potential within. Somehow I was persuaded otherwise and took on the challenge of upping my game from 5km to 21km. It was not easy I assure you, but I stayed with it.

I started training back in May of this year up until two days shy of the race date in October. Nervousness was evident and I kept thinking " what am I doing?" There was no turning back though, I am not a quitter and I truly endeavor to try and complete all those things I start out to do. So in the midst of fear and things in the natural saying I was not qualified, I persevere.

All prepped- pre race event!!!

Two weeks later. What was I afraid of in the first place. I aced it. I ran that race with such comfort and ease that even in the end when people were seen sprinting to cross and make a perfect time I was jogging in with a smile of victory and accomplishment. Thankful and grateful for the journey and the ability to finish.
Just before the race started!

Victory! Exiting the race!

How many times have we disqualified ourselves from stepping out in faith in a particular area in our lives? How often have we underestimated ourselves? If nothing else this journey has thought me that I do have some untapped potential. There are things yet to be discovered but I won't know them until I step out and dare to attempt.

How about you? Are there things you are wanting to do? Being prompted to try and or upgrade? Maybe a skill you want to explore and see where it takes you? Whatever it is, I say go for it. Life is too short to not try. The right time is now!

Being 30 for this year has reminded me of this. So cheers to the next challenge, the next goal, the next dream, the next milestone.

God bless,

Guyana 2014!- Dream big

30 has definitely been adventurous and I feel like I have taken not only some risks and challenged myself but also have stepped out when normally I might not. Hmmmm, for example two mini summer vacations. Yay me! I was so proud of myself for going to Miami and then there was Guyana. Awesome. Both totally worth the trip.  On one hand I got to chill with my Momma and experienced Miami and then one of my best Pal's wedding in Guyana. I couldn't ask for a better summer. So here are a few pics that sums up the end of an awesome summer.

In the Air!

My Guyana Eldorado :)

Ooh my this "Chinee" was on my mind since whenever....first meal on arrival

Ooh my snow cone. how I craved it. Satisfied vacationer.. :)
The bride and another best pal! The reason for the trip

Me and Aunty Nats. Awesome woman. Love her to Bits :)

My mini advice, is to step out. Don't be deceived by your physical state and or current circumstance, anything is possible. As I read in a recent article, the writer quoted an unknown author " A goal without a deadline is a dream" wow, that blew me away. Because I have lot of dreams without a date... go figure. Thirty just got a little more interesting.  A got a few dates already in mind.

Hopeful and looking forward to the days and months ahead. I think you can say I am doing good so far.

Hope you enjoyed the pics.

God Bless

Miami!!- My first Jaunt to the States!

Hello Hello!

Things are happening at 30. Even as I wrote this blog I thought of all the little things I have either attempted, decided on or just plain old stepped out and try. There is a boldness that comes with aging. Yes I said it, aging. I am proud to mature in age because I believe that my wisdom will be increased, don't you agree.

Exploring Sawgrass Mills area, Sunrise,Florida

So yes, it's been a minute. Life. But I have much updates. I had an amazing adventure in Miami Florida two weeks ago. It was adventurous in that it was my first vacation where I toured  for the most part by myself.

Scenic view as the play prepared to land

My trip was initiated by the fact that my mother had a workshop and I pretty much saw the opportunity to take a mini vacation and enjoy the luxury hotel. It was beautiful.

No regrets. It was all that an more. This was my first vacation alone. I know, i know. My mom was there but because she was otherwise engaged in her work activities I pretty much planned my days and hit the streets and it was so worth it.

There was inspiration in many places. I really felt refreshed and energized when I left. aaaaah Miami!!! :)

Financial District, Miami

There are a few reasons why I would definitely revisit:

1. The food.....yum yum yum ( I really wanted to try out this restaurant that I didn't get to.. La Camaronera..the fish just looked so good...so next time I will indulge) However my burgers and fries in the picture was the first meal on arrival, from one of the places I wanted to check out, Balans. Loved it..
yum yum- Balans Restaurant

2. The shopping- Sawgrass Mills Outlet mall in Sunrise was the bomb. Though I spent a day, I still think I was a bit rushed..lol but just like any short vacation, it leaves more for the revisit right...:)

3. South beach- I sat and ate my meal and walked around. But I didn't get to dip...so yes.. I need some beach interaction. water water water water! It was so beautiful.

South Beach

4. Miami Trolley and Metro Mover- I didn't get to ride these. These are free transportation means available in the City...hahah

5. The shopping- ridiculous I tell you...I think I mentioned this already. but yes, the shopping.
On the Big Tour Bus

6. The last leg of my BIG BUS Tour. I wanted to go to the mall so I forfeited that part of the tour for a day at the mall.. you got to sacrifice right. I was trying to do what was on my list.

So there you have it in a nutshell. My mini vacation to Miami, hope you guys enjoyed. !! Don't forget to subscribe.  I will probably have other scenic photos in other posts, as mentioned, I was inspired.

Bye Miami, until we meet again...

Time, time is not on our side or my side?hmmmmm!

I know it's been a minute, but between work, sewing, summer happenings and church I haven't truly had the amount of time and energy that goes into a well thought out post... :) It's not an excuse you all, just an observation.

No I won't give up on my blog. I believe that the best months of Thirty is yet to come. So even if it is a quick hello to let you all know that I am still flowing at 30 that's what I will do.

With all the festivities in the air I have some interesting little write ups that may interest you all in addition to my sewing and upcoming vacation too.

Stay tune. Uta is still here and loving 30 :)

Come again Monday for updates.

Flash Back- Flash Forward! Marathon Time!

Hello ,

It's been a minute. I trust you got a chance to check out my sewing blog that is up. I have been working on my sewing this past week and getting the blog going. In addition fitness is on the rise.

As part of the year of being thirty I figure I couldn't leave the fitness aspect out. After all we all want to be healthy right. I hope so.

So FLASH BACK.
Last year I took part in my first race ever. The Toronto Soctiabank Waterfront Marathon, Half Marathon and 5km. It was the first of my fitness challenge I completed the 5km. My goal at the time with only a limited time to train was to focus on completing the 5km by  run/walk. In the end all hiped of event date and slightly in abit of pain I ran the full race! Completing in 39mins. WOW!! What an accomplishment for me, as you can see above I was all smiles after. Felt good to see this through. I slacked off after the race with the running though, allowing my schedule to get into the way and running sort of fell off the charts.

FLASH FORWARD

I started training again in May this year. I plan to make running apart of my routine and that outlet for fitness weekly. So whether I do two or three days a week I endeavor to increase my fitness. The goal in the end this year is to take part in the race again this time completing the 21km race. Yes, you all heard right 21km. The Half Marathon, equivalent to 13miles.aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.. And that I will complete by the grace of God.

So far so good. I do challenge myself weekly and I believe I am making progress following my plan. I never thought I would even run 1 km much less 21.km. And yet I pursue. This past weekend the end of my 8th week of Training I completed the longest distance so far 12KM in 1.5hrs. Pretty good

I see myself completing this and I know that it will be a great fitness achievement in the end. Perseverance and hard work will prevail. No one said it would be easy.

I will keep you all posted.

A corner of my own- Uta Sews!

I can actually sew! A little discovery I made a few years ago and I really like it.

As this is pretty much something I intend to pursue. How far, only God knows. But I figure it should have its own space as I may start doing projects weekly, hence the creation of  the blog "Uta Sews".( I currently have a page on http://www.burdastyle.com/profiles/gtangel you can see some of the things I started off with and have recently done as well).

I still consider myself a novice, but the ideas and creativity that flows through my mind warrant the intermediate level. No doubt I possess some skills but need to discover more and how far I could go. So here’s to a summer of discovery. Can I really bring those ideas and images in my head to life, I think so.

In Photo: I made this beautiful vintage looking circle skirt. More pics will be posted on my sewing blog

With no further or do. I invite you to follow me on my sewing blog if you are interested in seeing where this takes me and how it grows over the next year of 30.

HOPE Wednesday!- Start writing it down, again!

It's not every day you feel like pursuing your dreams and goals you set for yourself. Distractions, delays, disappointments and all that are present in the air. It's as if it comes with the territory. You know, big dreams, much adversity. Get it.

That's when I feel we are truly tested. Tested on our willingness to endure and the substance of our perseverance. I mean, let the truth be told that anything we will ever strive for that defies what our circumstances may reflect, will require us to work overtime, believe over time and endure overtime.

It's ultimately the dream, vision, goal,  the end in mind, that keeps us doing what we do. So how then do we deal with those times when our activity is low and we assume no progress is being made. Can I say this; being busy does not always mean you are productive. In other words, low activity does not equal no productivity.

Write it down! Add pictures, make a plan, review your goals, draft a sketch, whatever visual you have. Make it plain!

We need to start writing it down again. What does that mean? Writing down those plans, dreams, visions... those things you are working towards and striving for. You need a reminder when you feel hopeless.

Don't lose sight, literally of the great things ahead of you.

Start writing, pursuing, doing and see those dreams come to life one day at a time.

Your hope (What you truly believe will happen) will fuel you to pick up momentum again.

Much love

UtaC
